Thought-provoking discussion on preaching, church membership

The 9Marks blog, blog.9marks.org/, has hosted a stimulating three-part discussion over the last couple of weeks that I would commend to you.

The skinny

Discussion on preaching, church membership and how to have a thriving gospel-centered community of believers who are intentional about devoted walks with Christ and doing evangelism.

The players

Mike McKinley is the pastor of Guilford Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia. McKinley earned an M.Div at Westminster Theological Seminary and is a regular contributor to the 9Marks blog.
Steve Timmis is part of The Crowded House network of churches and is the co-author — with Tim Chester — of Total Church and The World We All Want.

McKinley noted the following about Timmis:

Total Church has made a bit of a splash because of its mixture of a firm commitment to Reformed soteriology with a radical ecclesiology.  My hope in these conversations is to highlight areas of agreement and discuss areas of disagreement between the 9Marks model of a healthy church and the Total Church model.

As always your comments are welcome, in particular about monological vs. dialogical preaching, church membership and having a thriving gospel-centered, evangelistic church.
