The issue of Calvinism is hotly debated in many circles of the Southern Baptist Convention. As a 5-point Calvinist who loves missions, evangelism and calling people to repentance and faith, I appreciate when people seek to show that Calvinists and non-Calvinists can work together for the cause of the Gospel.
The folks at Between the Times are in the midst of just such an effort. Between the Times is a blog of some of the administrators and faculty at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, including Southeastern President Danny Akin.
Two faculty members at Southeastern recently wrote open letters to Calvinists and non-Calvinists at Between the Times that are geared toward cooperation in the cause of spreading the Gospel. This initial post explains the goal of the letters.
Russell Moore, dean of the School of Theology at Southern Seminary, last fall preached an excellent sermon on Romans 8:26-9:6 at Southern Seminary, titled “Predestined to What? Why the Doctrine of Election Is So Hard to Believe.” I would commend this sermon to you as an excellent exhortation to Calvinists of how our theology should energize our evangelism.
